NDT Students Participate in Virtual Guest Lecture with Renowned Epilepsy Expert Dr. Stephen Wong
June 26, 2025

Students in the Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) program at AIMS Education College of Health Sciences recently had the opportunity to learn from one of the nation's leading experts in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology during a special virtual guest lecture. Hosted in collaboration with the Neurodiagnostic Department, the session featured Dr. Stephen Wong, Director of Epilepsy at the Atlantic Health System’s Atlantic Neuroscience Institute.
Dr. Wong, a board-certified neurologist with over 20 years of experience, is widely recognized for his work in electroencephalography (EEG), epilepsy monitoring, and pre-surgical evaluations for epilepsy treatment. He holds multiple board certifications, including Neurology and Epilepsy from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as Advanced Central Clinical Neurophysiology with added competency in Epilepsy Monitoring from the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology.
The virtual session, held on June 26, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., focused on the timely and highly relevant topic “Pattern Recognition of EEG Epochs.” Dr. Wong provided an in-depth exploration of epileptic dysfunction zones, aura localization, seizure/aura symptomatology, and the distinctions between seizures and epilepsy. His detailed explanations of EEG interpretation and recognition of syndromes such as infantile spasms, frontal lobe epilepsy, temporal lobe epilepsy, and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome gave students a deeper understanding of clinical practice.
A former Associate Professor of Neurology and Epilepsy Division Chief at Rutgers - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Dr. Wong has also served as a neuro-hospitalist throughout the Tri-State Area and participated in numerous clinical trials as a principal investigator. He holds two patents, has authored multiple book chapters and peer-reviewed publications, and has a longstanding commitment to mentoring students and junior faculty. His teaching experience and passion for research made him an ideal speaker for the AIMS NDT program.
Throughout the session, Dr. Wong’s dynamic teaching style encouraged active participation. “Our students asked insightful questions, responded thoughtfully, and demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm as they prepare to transition into their clinical internships,” said Dr. Chandrashekhar Narechania, Program Director for the Neurodiagnostic Technology program at AIMS. Dr. Wong also shared insights into the emerging role of machine learning in neurophysiology—one of his key research interests—adding an exciting glimpse into the future of the field.
This guest lecture is part of an ongoing series at AIMS Education that connects students with distinguished professionals and thought leaders in healthcare. By combining academic instruction with real-world clinical insights, these sessions foster a collaborative learning environment that bridges the gap between theory and practice.
AIMS Education extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Stephen Wong for his time, expertise, and continued support of the Neurodiagnostic Technology program.
