Accreditation Status Update
AIMS Education - ABHES Accreditation Status Update
AIMS Education is currently undergoing a formal review process with our accrediting agency, the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). As part of this process, ABHES has issued a Show Cause action and requested that we submit a Teach-Out Plan for review.
This action does not mean that AIMS has lost its accreditation. We remain accredited by ABHES, and all programs are operating as usual. The Show Cause process is a procedural step that allows an institution to address questions or compliance matters raised by the accreditor.
We are working closely and cooperatively with ABHES to respond to their inquiries, and we are confident that we will address all cited items promptly and maintain our accreditation in good standing.
Summary of Items Cited by ABHES
ABHES has identified the following areas for further documentation or clarification:
- Contracting Agreement Updates - Submitting the required applications to formally notify ABHES of updates to the contracting agreement with Geneva-Portage and the transition of certain general education courses to AIMS faculty.
- Incomplete Grade Policy - Clarifying discrepancies between the Incomplete Grade policy in the College Catalog and the policy previously provided to ABHES.
- Prerequisites for Certain Courses - Clarifying differences between the published prerequisites for certain Diagnostic Medical Sonography courses and student records, and confirming that the curriculum follows the approved program plan.
- Regular and Substantive Interaction - Providing evidence of regular and substantive interaction in certain distance education courses.
Our Response and Progress
We have submitted the required applications to ABHES to modify and terminate our contracting agreement with Geneva-Portage. Once approved, we anticipate that this will resolve the contracting agreement updates, the incomplete grade policy matter, and the portion of the regular and substantive interaction item related to Geneva-Portage courses.
To address the prerequisite item, we will provide documentation confirming that all students met the required prerequisites and corequisites, and that the program’s cohort-based scheduling ensures students cannot take courses out of sequence. The discrepancy appears to be related to a course code change or the wrong catalog version being provided to ABHES.
To demonstrate regular and substantive interaction in the AIMS Education courses, we will submit evidence that all online and blended courses are delivered synchronously with live lectures, which inherently provide regular and substantive interaction between faculty and students.
We will continue to work closely with ABHES to ensure full compliance prior to submitting our formal response to the Show Cause Action letter. This page will be updated as additional information becomes available.
