Guest Speaker Dr. Nimisha Mehta

We were privileged to host Dr. Nimisha Mehta, a renowned expert in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, for an insightful guest lecture focused on neonatal Hip, Head, and Spine. Dr. Mehta’s session was meticulously designed to offer our students unique insights, stimulate engaging discussions, and provide critical resources for further learning.

The lecture delved into Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip, covering scanning protocols, image acquisition techniques, and precise caliper placements. Dr. Mehta facilitated hands-on learning with a phantom, guiding students individually to master image capture and measurement skills. Moving on to neonatal Brain pathologies, students honed their scanning abilities, learning to navigate the probe through the anterior fontanelle and accurately assess brain structures from different angles to distinguish normal from abnormal findings.

An interactive Tissue Biopsy simulation using a breast phantom provided students with a comprehensive understanding of their role in assisting radiologists during biopsies. Dr. Mehta detailed the biopsy tray components, various instruments, patient preparation, sterile procedure maintenance, and post-care essentials, ensuring students grasp the intricacies of this crucial aspect of diagnostic sonography. Additionally, the session included a demonstration of Thoracentesis on a phantom, emphasizing the sonographer's role in ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.

Guest lectures like Dr. Mehta's not only enrich our students' academic journeys but also offer invaluable real-world perspectives. We extend our gratitude to Dr. Mehta for sharing her expertise and making this educational experience exceptionally enriching.
