Technical Standards
The prospective Medical Billing and Coding student must be able to:
- Sit at a desk for 80%-90% of worktime.
- Read text from printed material or a computer screen.
- Use a keyboard and type effectively for long periods of time.
- Perform basic mathematical computations.
The prospective Medical Billing & Coding student must:
- Possess the proper motor skills to use standard office equipment.
- Be competent using MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Possess good interpersonal skills to interact with patients, family members, and medical staff.
- Possess detailed oriented skills.
- Be capable of using a phone for long periods of time.
- Possess analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Be courteous, polite, and professional.
Health Standards
The prospective Medical Billing & Coding student must:
- Consistently demonstrate emotional, mental, and physical health.
- Possess adequate hearing in order to communicate with patients, family members, and medical staff.
- Be able to handle stressful situations related to billing and insurance.
- Be emotionally capable of working with patients and performing all job tasks safely.
Communication Standards
The prospective Medical Billing & Coding student must demonstrate effective communication skills in order to:
- Communicate clearly in English with patients, family members, and medical staff.
- Elicit accurate information from patients, family members, and medical staff.
- Utilize professional medical terms when documenting a patient’s electronic health record.
